Our Place review: the strongest marketing, the thinnest file

The Always Pan and the Wonder Oven both score 21/100 — the lowest pair on our table. Not because anything is known to be wrong with them, but because almost nothing is published at all.

Our Place sells the idea of a non-toxic kitchen better than anyone in this category. The pan is beautiful, the photography is excellent, and the language is unambiguous.

Behind it is a coating called Thermakind, which is a trade name and not a material, and the least published evidence we have found anywhere on this site. You cannot score a material nobody will name.

What the score is, before you read one

It is a disclosure score out of 100, not a safety rating: what it is made of, who tested it, where it is made, whether the claim matches the evidence. A pan can score 20 and be perfectly fine to cook in. What a low score means is that nobody outside the company can check. The rubric is here.

What they publish, point by point

Our Place Always Pan (ceramic) — 21/100 · coated, plastic, or unnamed

$89 (10.5in)

  • What touches the food — 8/60. “Thermakind” ceramic coating on recycled aluminium · composition not published
  • The rest of it — 13/25. Lids, seals, handles and the outside.
  • Backed up — 0/15. Nothing beyond the maker’s own word.
  • Made in. UNVERIFIED
  • They claim. "Forever chemicals like PTFEs, PFOAs, other PFAS, as well as potentially toxic materials like lead and cadmium"
  • Warranty. 1 year limited

The strongest non-toxic marketing on this page, attached to the least published evidence we found anywhere. No lab report, no certification, no coating composition, no country of manufacture. Even the body certifying the “100% certified post-consumer recycled aluminium” is unnamed.

What we’d want you to know:

  • “Thermakind” is a trade name, not a disclosed material.
  • We went looking again and did find one document: a California AB 1200 disclosure, which lists the Always Pan under aluminium cookware with aluminium, iron, chromium, nickel and manganese as intentionally added. That earns a testing point. Note what it does not cover — those are the metals in the pan body. The coating, which is the entire question here, is not itemised anywhere on it.
  • December 2025: the law firm Migliaccio & Rathod opened a consumer investigation covering the Titanium Always Pan Pro and the Always Pan 2.0 — this pan. The allegations under investigation include chipping and flaking within about a year, and that the “PFAS-free” representation may mislead; the separate “coating-free” allegation concerns the titanium model, not this one. No lawsuit has been filed. This is a plaintiffs’ firm at solicitation stage, and should be read as exactly that.
  • None of this means the pan is unsafe. It means nobody outside the company can check.

Our Place Wonder Oven — 21/100 · coated, plastic, or unnamed

$185

  • What touches the food — 8/60. Air fryer basket: “Steel”, grade not stated · bake pan: aluminium with ceramic coating
  • The rest of it — 13/25. Lids, seals, handles and the outside.
  • Backed up — 0/15. Nothing beyond the maker’s own word.
  • Made in. UNVERIFIED
  • They claim. "made without PTFE (Teflon), PFOA, PFAS, Lead & Cadmium"
  • Warranty. 1 year limited

Better than most at saying which accessory is which: the basket is listed as steel, the bake pan separately as “Aluminum with non-toxic ceramic nonstick coating”. But the steel has no grade, “non-toxic” is doing unearned work, and the blanket “accessories are made without PTFE” claim sits directly above an accessory that has a coating.

What we’d want you to know:

  • The claim is written as covering the accessories: “Accessories are made without the following: PTFE (Teflon), PFOA, PFAS, Lead & Cadmium”. One of those accessories is ceramic-coated. Ceramic sol-gel is not PTFE, so the claim can be literally true — but it reads as “no coating” and that is not what it says.
  • “Non-toxic” is not a regulated term and nothing is published to substantiate it.
  • “Steel” with no grade is the same gap we dock lunchbox brands for. 304 and 430 behave differently.
  • No testing, no named laboratory, no country of manufacture.
  • One year warranty, excluding “normal wear and tear”, glass parts and accessories packed with the appliance.

Our verdict

A 21/100 does not mean the pan is dangerous. It means the food cooks against a coating whose chemistry is never named, and that if you wanted to check any part of the claim yourself, you could not. No lab report. No coating composition. No country of manufacture. Even the body that certified the recycled aluminium goes unnamed.

The Wonder Oven does one thing better and it is worth crediting: it distinguishes between accessories rather than making a blanket statement, listing the basket as steel and the bake pan separately as aluminium with a ceramic non-stick coating. Then it puts a blanket “made without PTFE” claim directly above a coated accessory, which is the kind of thing this site exists to point at.

If the ceramic look is what you are after, Caraway publishes an actual lab report and scores 53.
